Ponies The Three Main Tribes
The most common race in Equestria, there are possibly thousands of ponies who have managed to survive the destruction of the world. These do not differ greatly from what is shown in the show: they eat plants (as well as meat, on rare occasions), walk on all fours, and communicate in a common language. This language has, surprisingly, barely been altered from what they had during the Light Era. At worst, a pony may find texts from the time awkwardly worded, but they will still be able to understand it given enough effort. Typically, they gain their cutie marks as teenagers, but there have been cases of some living and dying without them.
Earth ponies: These are currently the most common, being the hardiest in every sense. They have an impressive level of resistance to warmth, strong immune systems to fight against most diseases, and a remarkable ability to heal from any injury. They have a special connection to nature; plants grow more easily when an Earth pony lives nearby. A semi-common slur against them is "mud pony".
Pegasi: Less common than the Earth ponies, these are light and quick even on the ground in a way that more than compensates for their weak bodies. They have a remarkable ability to subconsciously take in everything they see while flying, and a tolerance for the cold that borders on supernatural. Stereotypically airheaded.
Unicorns: Each one of them instinctively knows how to cast a small selection of spells relating to their cutie mark, and they are also capable of manually learning others. All five of their senses are stronger than the other pony races, and they have a sixth sense to easily detect magic. Other Ponies Crystal ponies: Almost extinct, and very fragile. Bat ponies: A rare mutation of pegasus, they have eyes that are very sensitive to light, as well as leathery, bat-like wings. Saddle Arabians: Tall and fast, albeit with legs that are easily broken. Breezies: Extinct; little is known. Alicorns: Demigods, currently extinct. Other Races Zebras: Heavily-accented voices, with an innate understanding of magic and alchemy. Changelings: Lost souls, mostly extremely similar in appearance, who have the ability to shapeshift. Minotaurs: Horrendously strong, and often viewed as intimidating despite not being particularly good fighters. Chimeras: Extremely rare creatures with two or three heads. Mules, donkeys: Sure-footed and rather strong. Griffons: Griffins, gryphons; many alternate spellings. Fast, with razor-sharp claws and a meat-only diet.
